A Spa Break at Pennyhill Park

There are many reasons why people visit the Pennyhill Park Hotel. From its Michelin star restaurant, the Latymer, to the golf course to its world-class spa facilities, there is something for everyone in this Surrey haven that extends to 123 acres.

I was recently invited for a Retox Spa Break at the hotel and knowing how much I love me a good Spa Break ( it’s true, 30% of my Instagram posts are me in some sort of pool), it didn’t take me too long to pack my bags and head off to the Ascot area! The ride there was surprisingly fast and it took me 1hr and 30 minutes by train from the Ealing Broadway station. However, a car drive is only around 40 minutes, making it a perfect gateway from London.

Upon arriving, it was obvious that the hotel is a hotspot for the ones that enjoy luxury with a line of expensive cars parked outside the reception. A good indication of the hotel’s quality and its facilities which gave me an extra boost of excitement for my stay. Luckily for me, my predictions were right as just a few minutes later, I was escorted to my own maisonette where a bottle of Taittinger was waiting to mark the start of my spa break. The room was the biggest and most impressive one I have ever been in (and I have been to a fair share of hotel rooms) with draped velvets, a four poster bed and even a TV on the bathroom!? Room amenities included a coffee machine, two TVs in each of the living areas, a tablet for room service/information and a face mask, a nice welcome gift from the Spa. I quickly sipped a glass of champagne and rushed to my spa treatment.

Both I and my friend opted for the deeply nourishing gold facial for our treatment but other options include an energizing massage, a manicure or a pedicure. However, the facial was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend you book that on your visit. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized after using the caviar and pearl enriched products that it was literally glowing! In addition, you also get a relaxing facial, scalp and hand massage as a part of the treatment so it really ends up being a very good option from the Retox spa break.

Next on the schedule, we were booked for an afternoon tea right after the treatment. Walking there seemed like one of the hardest things to do when this relaxed but you will be surprised how much strength you can get thinking about food. The afternoon tea included a glass of Taittinger and was accompanied with all the homemade delicacies that you could think of. Sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and homemade desserts all contributed to a great pick-me-up meal after the spa.

Returning to the room didn’t feel right with the spa still open, so we decided to put on our swimsuits and make as much use of the facilities as we could before dinner. And I am so glad we did as the spa turned out to be the highlight of our stay! The building is huge, modern and very well taken care of. It includes eight indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, herbal steam rooms, laconiums, a sauna and an ice cave among others. My personal favorite was the hydrotherapy heated pool which extended till outdoors and was the perfect place to relax (even if it was cold outside!). We ended up enjoying ourselves so much in it that I had to postpone the dinner for an hour later!

The dinner at the Brasserie was the best way to end a full but relaxing day at the Pennyhill Park Hotel. I chose scallops as my starter which were nice and juicy and were served with a chorizo ragu that I absolutely loved. My main, the pork belly, was crispy on top just like it should be but still very soft on the inside. Sadly, there was no room for dessert so we headed back to our maisonette for the night (never thought I would say that!?).

Breakfast is also included in the Spa break price and of course, I couldn’t possibly miss it. The buffet had so many dishes and included both healthy and not so healthy options. The crumpet, crushed avocado and poached egg was a game changer and I can’t wait to recreate it on a Sunday morning home. Pro tip: Go for breakfast early on your departure day as you can still use the spa facilities till 2 pm after checking out. If there is ever a reason on why you should wake up at 7 am on your holidays, then this would be it. That’s exactly how I spend my last morning until the very last minute and I woulnd’t change it for the world!
